La magie des mots and COMQUAT are proud to announce the launch of the 2026 edition of the writing contest, with the inspiring theme “Vaudreuil-Soulanges as seen through its nature.” This contest is open to all residents of Vaudreuil-Soulanges and invites the public to take an original and creative look at the region through the richness of its natural environment.

This year, participants are invited to give free rein to their imagination by letting nature itself speak. The aim is to stimulate creativity, promote the French language, and strengthen the sense of belonging to our beautiful region, while offering a unique and fun writing experience.

How to participate

To participate, simply write a 300- to 400-word text. The story must be told in the first person, from the perspective of an animal, mineral, or plant in Vaudreuil-Soulanges. A river, tree, rock, bird, or even an insect can become the narrator and reveal the region from an unexpected angle.

Three categories are available this year:

16 and under
17 and over
Collective text
Texts must be sent in PDF or Word format by 1:00 p.m. on March 26, 2026, to the following email address: lamagie.comquat.concours@gmail.com

Prizes to be won

By participating, authors have the chance to win one of the following prizes per category:

1st prize: $1,000
2nd prize: $500
3rd prize: $250

The jury also reserves the right to award various participation prizes.

The results will be announced on Sunday, May 3, 2026. Winners will be contacted by phone by La Magie des Mots or by COMQUAT.

COMQUAT was pleased to offer an immersion program in collaboration with the Vaudreuil-Soulanges RCM and thanks to financial support from the Quebec Federation of Municipalities. The main objectives of the program were to:

Support initiatives to promote and enhance the French language.
Encourage a collective approach that promotes the integration of immigrants into Quebec society.
Offer introductory activities to municipal and community life in their new community.
Raise awareness of the importance of French as a common language and encourage participants to develop their French language skills.

The program consisted of three parts, each comprising two workshops: a preparatory workshop and an outing to discover the region and its attractions.

The first part focused on “municipal services” with an outing offering a tour of the Vaudreuil and Soulanges region, including a meeting with the Mayor of Vaudreuil, Paul Dumoulin. They were very impressed by their meeting with the mayor, who adjusted his pace to ensure that all our learners understood him. For some of our participants, being able to have a friendly and warm discussion with the authorities was a comforting experience. Some participants, even long-time residents of the region, learned a lot at the workshop on municipal services.

The second part focused on “Quebec wildlife” with a trip to the Ecomuseum and a tour of the towns and attractions in the L’Île-Perrot region. A group of French language students from the Belles-Rives training center joined us for this part. We took the opportunity to introduce our participants to Smoke Meat Pete’s poutine during this outing.

The third part focused on “Quebec traditions and customs—sugar season” with a meal at the Sucrerie de la montagne in Rigaud, including a reception with hot chocolate, a guided tour of the sugar shack and bakery, a traditional sugar season meal, and a music workshop with wooden spoons. This activity was a great success, as this video shows.

This program reached more than 65 citizens in the region. The funds received were used to enable participants to enjoy enriching experiences in the region, which they can then recreate with their families. Preparation workshops were offered before each activity to reinforce French language skills and general competencies, including vocabulary, reading, and basic concepts related to the proposed activity. These workshops promoted better understanding, active participation, and greater confidence among participants in expressing themselves in French and helped them discover the treasures of our region, municipal and community services, and our traditions and customs.

The evening provided an opportunity to present the 2024-2025 annual report, which highlights the vitality of the organization with 517 registrations, more than 1,000 workshops, and 1,691 hours of classes offered to learners. These figures reflect the ongoing commitment of the team and volunteers to the mission of literacy and francization.

The AGM was also an opportunity to thank Sylvie Pelletier, outgoing Executive Director, for her five years of leadership marked by rigor and humanity, and to warmly welcome Andréanne Poulin-Lavigne, the new Executive Director, who will ensure the continuity of this mission with passion and creativity.

The 2025-2026 Board of Directors was also elected:

• Florence Le Garrec, President.
• Georges Bertrand, Vice-President.
• Jacques Ménard, Treasurer.
• Séverine Legru, Secretary.
• Kateryna Shatkovska, Administrator.
• Peter Konaktchiev, Director.

Next year’s action plan will focus on developing new community projects, strengthening regional partnerships, and consolidating service offerings.

COMQUAT is now entering its 40th year of existence, more deeply rooted than ever in its community, with a team motivated to continue the work it has begun.

For this International Francophonie Day, several stakeholders in the Vaudreuil-Soulanges region are highlighting the importance and richness of the French language, a true pillar of our culture and collective identity. We are delighted to share the wishes and messages of support from our dedicated partners. Their commitment and passion for the French language and Francophone culture testify to the importance of this celebration.

Through various initiatives, including the third edition of the writing contest “Les mystères de Vaudreuil-Soulanges” (The Mysteries of Vaudreuil-Soulanges), organized by COMQUAT and La Magie des mots, Marie-Claude Nichols, Member of Parliament for Vaudreuil, highlights the remarkable work of our community. This contest, open to all residents of the Vaudreuil-Soulanges RCM, aims to strengthen our attachment to the French language, encourage written expression, and highlight the assets and unique characteristics of our region.

Desjardins Vaudreuil-Soulanges expresses its support in these terms: “On International Francophonie Day, Desjardins Vaudreuil-Soulanges salutes the vitality of our community. Together, let us celebrate the richness of the French language, a vehicle for solidarity and local pride. Committed to our region, let us continue to collaborate on projects that enrich our linguistic heritage.”

We also share the warm wishes of our Soulanges representative, Marilyne Picard, who highlights the value of the ties that unite us and enrich our daily lives: “In a world searching for common ground and shared horizons, our language brings us together, inspires us, and commits us. Let us cultivate this richness, promote our values, and build together a future where Francophone diversity remains a source of progress and fraternity.”

Through this collective action, the MRC de Vaudreuil-Soulanges is once again demonstrating its deep commitment to the French-speaking world. “On this International Francophonie Day, we celebrate the French language, a true treasure that deserves to be cherished, loved, and above all, shared. It is a unique opportunity to highlight the richness and diversity of our language, a source of innovation and a vehicle for infinite opportunities.”

 This day is a key moment to recognize the strength of French and the essential role it plays in our daily lives. Thanks to everyone’s efforts, we can ensure its influence and transmission to future generations.

On October 27, at the Omni-Center of Pincourt, COMQUAT launched its new video capsules.

What could be better than showing testimonials of successes experienced by our participants to convince our future students to take up what is often the challenge of their adult life.

On the theme of “A small step towards better literacy”, COMQUAT presents five (5) video capsules.

1. Comquat, an organization near you
2. Nick’s story, a first step towards schooling
3. Kawtar and Alexia’s story, a step towards a high school equivalency diploma
4. Omar’s story, a step towards improving the French language and professional success
5. Interviews with French as a second language learners, a step towards better communication. ( 3 versions, subtitled in French, English and Spanish)

On October 27, at its 2021 Annual General Meeting, COMQUAT welcomed three (3) new members to its Board of Directors: Mr. Clément Bergeron, Mrs. Natalya Kerosinskaya and Mrs. Milena Trifonova.

Comquat is proud to present the appointments of its 2021-2022 Board of Directors.

In her second year of mandate on the Board of COMQUAT, Florence Le Garrec-Sallenave will assume the position of President, replacing Isabelle Leduc. With her expertise in human resources, employment consulting and business organization, Florence is certainly well equipped to chair our Board.

Mr. Clément Bergeron will assume the position of Vice-President. He joins COMQUAT with a range of expertise complementary to COMQUAT’s mission.   From the management of development and operations to community action and social development, including the direction of leisure at the municipal and regional level, it goes without saying that Clément will be a valuable asset to the influence of COMQUAT.

Mrs. Jocelyne Bouillon gives us the privilege of renewing a second term with COMQUAT as Secretary of the Board. Her experience as a project manager and executive assistant in the field of employability as well as her incredible dedication and involvement in the cause of COMQUAT make Jocelyne a member of the Board of Directors at the “platinum” level.

Ms. Natalya Kesorinskaya will assume the position of Interim Treasurer replacing Mr. Michel Normand who had to end his mandate last June. In addition to her nine (9) years of experience in accounting, Natalya has a Bachelor of Commerce, specializing in accounting, and is a candidate for the practice of the CPA profession. Her experience will certainly be a great asset to our organization.

Ms. Milena Trifonova is also a candidate for the practice of CPA with 6 years of experience in accounting and will hold the position of administrator within the Board of COMQUAT.  We will be able to count on the professionalism of her experience in financial management, budget and analysis in public services.

WHAT A BOARD OF administration! A wonderful combination of experience, knowledge and motivation.
COMQUAT welcomes its new members and looks forward to an excellent year of collaboration with all members of the Board in managing the continuous development of its mission.

Excellent news, COMQUAT is in good financial health, thanks to the continued government subsidies that support our mission. Over the past year, the number of literacy learners has remained stable (74 people) and our Francization program has brought together 60 students.

From February to May, we renewed the extraordinary “Big Read” writing project. This year the project resulted in an inspiring partnership between COMQUAT and the Regional Museum of Vaudreuil-Soulanges. It ended in a resounding success on May 27, 2018, with the public reading of sixteen of the twenty-eight texts created by the participants. Emotions ran high!

We have attempted to increase our visibility in 2017-2018: through meetings with public institutions and the local communities of the Vaudreuil-Soulanges region, publications, representation, partnerships… But the best visibility is still offered via the Internet.

At year’s end, we lost two important members of COMQUAT, who left us to reorient their professional careers: Ms. Lise Cayer, Executive Director of the organization, and Mr. François Grenier, Instructor in literacy and francization. These have caused some major transitions. The challenges are great, but our new Director is ready to face them!
